A message from George:
Welcome!
As a former middle school math teacher, I understand the challenge and reward of being a teacher.
I started the Educator’s Circle to offer a safe haven for educators.
The Challenge
Educators are front-line miracle workers. They not only guide students through a year of learning, but simultaneously support the emotional health and well-being of hundreds of students per day. The word “teacher” doesn’t do it justice. Our educators provide circles of support around 50 million students across the country. But who is supporting them?
52% of teachers report feeling “always” or “very often” burned out at work, the highest rate of any US industry (Gallup).
Secondary traumatic stress (STS) is the emotional distress that arises when someone vicariously experiences the traumatic experiences of another individual. Educators are sponges for the experiences of their students. If this emotional build-up is left unaddressed, burnout becomes likely and predictable. Regular self-care practices to address burnout can be time and cost prohibitive for teachers.
Addressing Burnout, Improving Well-Being
The Educators Circle is a breathwork community to support educator's well-being.
It hosts a monthly breathwork group for anyone in a role that supports students. Breathwork is a powerful and effective mindfulness tool for addressing stress. Regular breathwork relieves stress, releases emotional build-up, and increases focus and clarity.
Many self-care practices pull teachers out their regular environments or require a significant time or financial investment. Breathwork teaches individuals a free and efficient tool, the breath. We explore how to use the breath regulate your state, regardless of the environment.
My hope is these monthly Educator's Circle meetings include time to:
Connect — connect with other educators
Reset — with a full “Active Breathwork” Session
Learn — breath techniques to use everyday
Welcome to the Educator’s Circle!
All my best,
George
